The authors present a book about how the lives of Norwegians in the late middle ages were formed and framed by the supernational institution and ideology of the Catholic Church. Some of the sources they have looked into have long been known, but only to a limited extent been used. But the book will also build upon and present hitherto unknown documents from a source to which the authors have been granted access by special permission. The book focuses on the geographical areas that, in the middle ages, constituted the diocese of Stavanger, i.e. today`s Rogaland, the Agder counties and parts of Hallingdal and Valdres.
